Ackerl Chapel
Our cycle route starts in Bavaria, where it branches off from the European route EV13 near Häusellohe. You can head towards Selb or continue on the EV13 to Silberbach, but our route heads towards the border and into Bohemia. We cross the border at the former Liebensteiner Tor, where the Ackerl forest chapel now stands. This romantic place is ideal for relaxing and taking a short walk in the surroundings.
Liba
In Libá, there is a tavern with a long name, which used to be a gym and later a dance hall where members of the Nazi party met. After the war, the Social Democrats gathered here, and there was even the first cinema, which screened films until 1988. After that, the building fell into disrepair and was demolished in 2002.
The cycle path leads through sharp bends to the castle, near which the first German school stood. The Czech school was opened in Libá only in 1925, despite the resistance of the local Germans. After the Munich Agreement, the Czech school was closed, but after the war it was reopened in the German school building. After 1952, it moved to a new building, where it still operates today.
Libá, castle
Libá Castle, located on the northwestern edge of the village, not far from the German border, is a place with a rich history. Although reconstruction is still ongoing, part of the interior is already accessible thanks to the "Time Passage" exhibition, which shows the development of the castle and chateau. The exhibition is divided into three parts: the history of the castle, repairs and the future.
Not only the restored interior spaces are interesting, but also the tower with a circular floor plan, the mysterious cellar and the rock atrium.
Alcove chapel
After leaving Libé, we will see a small chapel on the left side of the road, today yellow, originally white. The chapel was supposedly built for the daughter of the Zedwitz family, who married into the neighboring castle. Her parents had the chapel built on a hill so that her daughter could see it from the new castle and remember her home. The chapel is protected as folk architecture. After the stop, we continue along the road to the crossroads to Hůrka.
Monument near Hůrka
Just 100 meters from the previous turn, among the trees on the left, stands an inconspicuous stone mound from 1948. It commemorates the clash between border guards and a smuggler who brutally attacked Sergeant Josef Hadáček and his colleague. Hadáček survived the attack, but was left paralyzed. Paradoxically, today the attacker's name appears on the memorial to the victims of totalitarianism in Cheb. After a short stop, we continue towards Lužná.
Luzná – Sorkov
We enter the settlement of Lužná, formerly called Sorghof, today known as Sorkov. The former farmyard with a sheepfold once belonged to the Libé estate. Our route ends at a nearby crossroads, where cycle route 2057 connects. If you feel like continuing, you can head towards Ostroh and visit Seeberg Castle.
