How to survive with a backpack in the Aš region?

A guide for wanderers, bums and anyone who wants to experience a landscape that is both wild and welcoming at the same time
Ašsko: A region full of surprises
The Aš promontory is a region with a soul. Quiet, forested, with deep valleys and streams, it attracts adventurers of all kinds. If you are planning to come here with a backpack on your back and want to sleep under the open sky, we have some advice for you on how to behave in the region, where to refill your water and where to lay your head.
Water – where to find it and how to filter it

You won't find a supermarket on every corner in the Aš region, but we are blessed with springs and wells. Still, it's good to know exactly where to look for water, and ideally have a filter on hand.
💧 Pump in Vernéřov
At the end of the village of Vernéřov, by the road towards the ponds, you will find a cast iron pump. The water is clean, regularly used by locals. However, we recommend boiling it or using a filter.
💧 Mineral spring Dolní Paseky
A pleasant place to relax - a covered seating area right by the spring will please every pilgrim. The mineral spring in Dolní Paseky has been known since the 12th century, and in the Middle Ages it was considered medicinal. In 1870, the Aš manufacturer Gustav Geipel had it tested and built a gazebo near it, which was rebuilt into a brick pavilion in 1930.
💧 Mineral spring in Doubrava (Spring of the Century)
In the middle of the small village of Doubrava u Aše, just a short distance from the German border, a healing mineral spring with a similar composition to the Green Spring in Bad Elster, Germany, springs up. The water is suitable for supporting the heart, blood vessels, musculoskeletal system and kidneys. The spring is covered by a gazebo from 1972, the place has a pleasant atmosphere and is awaiting further improvement. A great stop for backpackers on their way through Aš!
Fire only with reason

Lighting a fire has a tradition in the Aš region - but also rules.
🔥 Only light fires in designated areas.
In most protected areas and in the forest in general, making fires is prohibited. However, you can find designated campsites at the shelters and at the campsite on Háj Hill and in the village of Krásná at the children's playground.
🚫 In summer, watch for warnings during droughts. The Aš region is usually green, but there is also a risk of fires here from time to time.

Forest etiquette
You are entering the home of animals, plants, and people. Act accordingly.
🌲 Don't leave any trash behind. What you bring, you take away. Even cigarette butts.
🌲 Don't destroy trees, don't break branches. There is plenty of dry wood everywhere.
🌲 Be quiet. Not only for the sake of the animals, but also for others who seek peace in the forest.
🌲 Don't sleep on private property. If you're not sure, ask. Most locals will be happy to help.
Where to lay your head

Overnight stays in the forest are possible, but with respect for the place and the rules.
🏕 Sports Hill (Háj)
The campsite offers spaces for tents and caravans - approximately 50 parking spaces for caravans and a tent field for up to 100 tents. Right next door is a sports complex open all year round.
Possibility of using the cozy rooms
And finally...
Ašsko is not a region that will serve you everything. But if you approach it with respect and open eyes, it will offer you something much more valuable – freedom, peace and unforgettable experiences. So pack your backpack, take a map (ideally a paper one) and set off. Aš is waiting for you.
