Evangelical Church of St. Martin

The Evangelical Church of St. Martin in Hranice, whose origins date back to the 14th century, hides mysterious legends and has gone through a turbulent history from the Hussite Wars to the Romanesque renovation in 1719. Its unique treasure is the original clock mechanism from 1881, which still reminds us of the connection with the past.
Forgotten in the veil of the past, the Evangelical Church of St. Martin in Hranice tells the mysterious legends of its beginning. Its origins are shrouded in the mists of time, but it probably appeared at the end of the 14th century as a single-nave sanctuary, growing out of an ancient Catholic chapel dedicated to St. Martin. The entry of the Hussites into Hranice in the first half of the 15th century suggests the church was re-consecrated in 1432 by Bishop Gerhard of Salome, perhaps in response to the desecration carried out by the Hussites or their followers. In 1719, the main nave of the church underwent extensive renovation in the Romanesque style, adding a new chapter to its eventful history. But one of the most interesting treasures of this place is the original clock mechanism from 1881, which testifies to the lasting connection with the past and reminds us of the legacy of past generations, which we pass on to future visitors.
