You can accompany the handicapped athlete Martin Schubert in the first kilometers.
Due to its location, Aš is a frequent starting or finishing point for various runs, marches and cycling trips. One of the events with a start and finish in Aš will be the attempt of handicapped athlete Martin Schubert to circumnavigate the Czech Republic along the Stezky Českem route . Martin Schubert will start the race on May 1 at 7 a.m. from Tyršov Dom in Klicperova Street .
The event website www.behzastestim.cz states about the run: "Martin has Stargardt's disease and is gradually losing his sight. He only started running after he was diagnosed with the disease. He started with shorter distances, which eventually turned into a marathon. And now he has set a new goal - a benefit run around the Czech Republic from May 1, 2025 .
The main objectives of the event are three:
- An effort to show everyone, healthy, sick and people without determination, that almost anything can be mastered.
- Try to involve as many people as possible in the run, both directly at the running locations and by connecting in the application.
- The main goal of the run is charitable, to raise funds for palliative care. We would like to ensure that together we can ensure a quality and dignified life until the last moment for as many people as possible. Whether they are our loved ones or people we don't even know."
As already mentioned, the running route follows the Czech Trail ( everyone can run the Czech Trail ) to the east. Martin Schubert will run along the southern route, and return from Aš, where he is due to arrive on May 28 , along the northern route. Both routes are around 2,000 kilometers long.
