Screening of the film Seeds of Europe with Czech subtitles
7. 4. 2026 from 17:00
adult department
free
We invite you to a screening of a documentary film about small seed businesses and the topic of seed saving in general. Together we will visit Ireland, Luxembourg, France, Italy, Austria and the Czech Republic.
Seeds carry the legacy of generations and connect us to the traditions of our ancestors. Why are we working together to preserve and restore them, even though many traditional varieties have disappeared due to industrialization and globalization? Growing local and diverse seeds protects the genetic diversity that is essential for healthy ecosystems. These varieties are better adapted to local conditions and resistant to diseases, making them important in responding to climate change. The protection of these rare seeds and the emergence of new local varieties are important for our history and for a sustainable future.
Discussion and practical tips on how to sow seeds in a small garden with Katka Horáčková
The film will be followed by a discussion with Katka Horáčková, who has been involved in seed growing for a long time. Katka will also bring a box of seeds of perennials, herbs and unusual edible leaves. We will also learn how important it is to choose the right seed sources for our gardens and balconies.
