Under the castle
Route 2061 begins at the crossroads of cycling routes in Podhradí. This village is one of the oldest in the Aš region – in the 12th century the Neuberg family lived here, later the Zedtwitz family, who built several castles here. Today you can find the remains of Neuberg Castle, the Church of the Good Shepherd and war monuments.
Podhradí was also the center of the textile industry - the Adler and Nickerl factory produced dresses exported all over the world.
Bílý Halštrov – dam
The Bílý Halštrov River originates near Výhledů and flows into Germany after 11 km. The dam (7 ha) was originally used for industrial purposes, but is now privately owned and not accessible to the public. Swimming and fishing are prohibited here.
Lower Paseky
One of the oldest villages in the Aš region, today only a shadow of its past. A few historic houses, remains of waterworks and monuments to former mills, a paper mill and a brewery remain. Kyselka above the stream once attracted visitors, today it is a quiet settlement with a few dozen inhabitants.
Dolní Paseky – a forgotten cemetery
Previously, locals had to carry their deceased all the way to Aš. The first cemetery in the village was established in 1889 thanks to the Künzel family. It fell into disrepair during the totalitarian regime, but was repaired by locals in the 1990s. The remaining tombstones were erected and information boards about the village's history were added. An alley leads to the cemetery, which in 2013 won the title of "Alley of the Year".
Vernéřov
At the end of the 19th century, a thousand people lived here, today only a fraction. Only a few houses and an inn remain from the original village, which survived all regimes. There is a monument to the fallen of World War I by the former school. A little beyond the pond you will find the restored Peters Brünnerl spring, which was renovated in 1912 by the industrialist Gustav Geipel.
Aš – main train station
The cycle path ends at the main train station in Aš, a town with a rich textile history and a unique location on the western tip of the Czech Republic. Formerly an industrial center, today an ideal place to discover nature and history. If you still have the energy, ride to the lookout tower at Hája (758 m above sea level) with a stunning view of Bohemia and Germany.
